Trimming the myrtle

Crape myrtle is a popular medium-sized, deciduous tree used in both residential and commercial landscapes here in Central Florida. The attractions is the colorful flowers (pink, red, purple and white) that last for a long period from midsummer to fall.

Flowers are produced on new wood, so it is important to prune back weak, spindly growth in spring to encourage better flowering. (come back and visit our site to check out the myrtle in full bloom!)
